Bicyclist killed in accident on State Road 79

On Monday morning, an accident on State Road 79 left a bicyclist dead.

According to Florida Highway Officials, a 47-year-old man from Gulfport Mississippi was driving north in the outside lane of SR 79 south of Pine Log Road, the inside northbound lane was closed due to construction.

A male bicyclist was cycling north on the east-paved shoulder of SR 79, while the vehicle was passing the cyclist, the biker went off the roadway onto the east grass shoulder of SR 79.

This caused the biker to fall from the bicycle into the northbound outside lane, causing the trailer from the initial vehicle to collide with the biker, officials said.

The driver of the vehicle did not sustain any injuries, the cyclist has passed away. No other information has been provided at this time.
