Bicyclist killed in Baymeadows Road crash, driver found hiding in bushes: Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office

A bicyclist was killed overnight in a crash on Baymeadows Road, and the driver, who ran from the scene, was later found hiding in some bushes nearby, police said.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, a woman was driving east on Baymeadows Road near Hampton Landing Drive when a bicyclist started crossing Baymeadows Road.

Witnesses told police the car had a green light and the bicyclist was crossing on a red light.

The car hit the bicyclist in the crosswalk, and the rider died at the scene, JSO said.

The driver stopped but left her two passengers at the scene and ran away on foot, according to police.

JSO said officers soon found her hiding in the bushes behind a nearby business.

Traffic homicide detectives are investigating the crash. JSO did not say yet if charges would be filed.

This was the sixth traffic fatality of 2025 in Jacksonville.
