A Boca Raton man is facing multiple charges Friday following his arrest by Boca Raton Police Halloween night for two hit-and-run crashes. Michael Lombardo of the 300 block of Palmwood Place in Boca Raton remains in the Palm Beach County Jail mid-day Friday. BocaNewsNow.com obtained the arrest report filed by the Boca Raton Police Department. We have redacted the victim names but nothing else. Here’s what police allege happened as trick-or-treaters took to the streets:
“On 10/31/2024, at 1710 hours, I was dispatched along with BRPD CSO Crowley to a crash that occurred at 1070 SW 16th Street. CSO Crowley arrived on the scene first and began working on the incident. The victim of the crash, (redacted), advised a white GMC truck struck her vehicle with such force that her own car hit her in the face leaving visible injuries. Due to the collision, (the victim’s) boyfriend ran out of the house just as the GMC began to flee the scene without rendering aid as required. (The victim’s) boyfriend got into his own vehicle and gave chase while calling 911.
While BRFD Rescue 2 was driving down SW 9th Ave toward W Camino Real they observed a second accident involving the same GMC (FL AJ14AW). BRFD Firefighter Sara Jacobson (ID 18332) advised she saw the GMC sideswipe a red Tesla and then came to final rest as a result of the collision. Jacobson watched as the driver, Michael Lombardo, exited the vehicle and layed down on the ground. Shortly after BRPD Officer Delgado and I arrived on the scene and detained Lombardo.
As soon as I arrived, I collected crash information from the second victim driving red Tesla. I walked over to Lombardo and asked if he knew anything about the crash to which he stated “no”. Lombardo insisted he had no information for me. As I approached Lombardo, I was presented with the overwhelming odor of alcohol emanating from his person. As I attempted to speak with Lombardo, I observed his eyes to be bloodshot and watery as well as his speech was heavily slurred. I explained to Lombardo that as he was not willing to provide me with any crash information, I would not begin a criminal investigation into DUI. In hearing this, Lombardo began agitated. I asked Lombardo if he would be willing to participate in Field Sobriety Exercises (FSEs) to which he declined. I explained to Lombardo his Taylor Warnings and in knowing this Lombardo again refused to participate. CSO Crowley transported Savannah to my location for the purpose of completing a show-up.
(The victim) positively identified Lombardo at 1759 hours as the driver of the GMC at the time of the original collision. Due to the totality of the circumstances and my training/experience, I felt the defendant was too impaired to operate a motor vehicle safely. The defendant was placed under arrest at 1804 hours, for driving under the influence. Lombardo was placed in handcuffs that were checked for tightness and double locked. Lombardo was transported to the BRPD DUI room for processing. During this time, he became more and more agitated and began yelling/threatening me. I started the 20-minute observation period at 1816 hours after checking his mouth for any liquids/foreign objects. During this period Lombardo stood up and began yelling at me. It became apparent that Lombardo’s agitated state would make breath sample collection not only impractical but unsafe.
I advised Lombardo of his Implied Consent Warnings at 1830 hours to which he continued to yell. Given the totality of the circumstances, Lombardo was transferred to a holding cell and the test was refused. I asked Lombardo if he would be willing to sign his citations to which he continued to yell demanding that I take his cuffs off and fight him. I explained to Lombardo that it was not an admission of guilt and that his refusal, would constitute an additional charge. Lombardo refused. Lombardo was transported to Boca Regional Hospital for clearance then Palm Beach County Jail. A search of Lombardo’s vehicle revealed two “Galaxy Gas” containers filled and a Handle of Fireball. Within the center console was a cup containing a liquid that was plainly identifiable as Fireball due to his distinct smell.”
