Body cam footage shows rescue of man caught in boat propeller

Video exclusively obtained by Local 10 News shows the dramatic rescue of a boater who fell off a vessel and got caught in the propeller.

The body camera footage from Miami Beach police shows the dramatic rescue, which happened back in March.

After falling off a yacht and into the propeller, the victim was losing blood and his arm was nearly detached.

Oscar Alfonso, of Miami Beach Ocean Rescue, along with Miami Beach police officers jumped into action.

“Time is crucial,” said Alfonso. “Time is everything.”

The victim was in pain, with massive injuries to his arm, leg and backside.

First responders tied a tourniquet to his arm to ease the blood loss.

“They saved the arm and the leg, so he’s going to have a pretty much normal life,” said Alfonso. “It’s very incredible.”

The victim was in South Florida on spring break, officials said.
