A Melrose man was arrested Saturday following a home shooting that left a local resident in the hospital.
M “Mr. L” R, 60, was arrested Saturday for shooting a neighboring resident an estimated three times, according to Bradford County Sheriff Office officials.
Deputies initially responded to the call at 8:56 a.m. Saturday, but said the shooting could have occurred late Friday night.
The victim, J H, 36, traveled to R’s home and after an altercation, was shot in the right thigh and right foot three times.
R fired two different firearms, once with a .9 mm pistol, which emptied the handgun’s magazine, then twice with a .22 caliber semi-automatic rifle, according to officials.
According to the arrest report, R wasn’t trying to kill him, only try to get him to leave.
After the shooting, the victim’s uncle picked him up from R’s home and took him back to his own residence, where he called 911.
R was later arrested at his own home in Speedville and now faces charges of attempted second degree murder, which if convicted, could mean up to 15 years in prison.
The victim was transported to UF Shands Hospital and sustained non-life threatening injuries.
