A Brightline train crashed into an SUV in Malabar on Monday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Officials said the crash happened at the railroad crossing along Jordan Boulevard around 3 p.m.
In a release, troopers explained that the SUV had been driving east along Jordan Boulevard toward US-1 as the train was headed south along the railroad.
“According to witnesses on-scene, the railroad crossing signal arm was on,” the release reads. “(The driver) attempted to avoid the train but came into its direct path.”
Troopers added that the SUV driver was injured in the crash and taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
