Two separate fires tore through mobile and manufactured homes in south Marion County this week, including one that was spurred on by burning leaves.
The first fire was reported on Tuesday, April 1, at around 1:09 p.m. At that time, Marion County Fire Rescue units were dispatched to the 17000 block of SE 150th Avenue Road in Weirsdale in reference to a pile of burning leaves that caught a mobile home on fire.
Emergency personnel from MCFR Weirsdale Station #27 and Villages of Marion Engine #10 responded to the scene at around 1:15 p.m. to find the structure heavily involved in flames.
While firefighters fought back flames, rescue units completed a primary and secondary search of the structure.
Shortly thereafter, additional units from Spruce Creek Station #30 and Belleview Station #18 arrived to assist.
The fire was called under control at around 1:32 p.m. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire has been deemed accidental.
The second fire was reported at 11:40 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1. According to MCFR, multiple units were dispatched to reports of a structure fire in the 800 block of SE 145th Street in Summerfield. At the time, the 911 caller reported a structure and vehicle fire, with heavy flames emanating from both.
MCFR crews arrived on the scene at around 11:51 p.m. to find a single-story structure around 50% consumed by flames. Two trailers were also on fire.
The fire was called under control at around 12:10 a.m.
According to MCFR, a civilian on the scene suffered a minor burn to the hand. No other injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
