A man is alive after getting trapped in wires while in a bucket truck in Cape Coral
CAPE CORAL, Fla. —
A worker was injured in a bucket truck in Cape Coral on Friday morning.
“We didn’t know whether he was alive or dead or what was happening. His friends and his brother down on the street were yelling up to him, and he wouldn’t respond at all,” said neighbor Cathy Weckerling.
According to the Cape Coral Fire Department, the worker was inside the bucket when they were injured along Monterey Avenue and Cobalt Court in Cape Coral.
Firefighters used aerial firetrucks to get the worker down.
NBC2 crews were at the scene and spoke to witnesses about what happened.
“A lot of panic. His coworkers just started running around. They didn’t know what to do, completely like they were so in shock that we stepped in, basically, and then tried to help them and organize everything,” said neighbor Robert Belza.
Witnesses said the worker was unconscious while stuck. They say the worker was trying to move a utility pole with a strap attached, but the strap fell off and fell against a phone pole.
The worker’s neck was caught, knocking him unconscious.
“The television cable got hooked up on the top of the bucket, and the man standing up inside the bucket kept going, and the man inside started to drop down a little bit, but the cable caught him at the neck,” said neighbor Alan Weckerling.
The Cape Coral Police said the incident was not an electrocution.
Police said it was a potential medical episode, and all parties involved are fine.
CCFD says Lee County EMS transported who was injured. A Lee Flight Helicopter landed at the scene.
