Cape Coral man arrested on animal abuse charges resulting in dog’s death

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Cape Coral man accused of animal abuse that caused the dog to die.

Deputies identified the owner as Jonathan Urquizo, 26, after responding to the Blue Pearl Animal Hospital on Thursday around 6:30 p.m.

Once deputies arrived at the animal hospital they met with employees who said the 16-yer-old Golden Labrador named Molly was in for emergency treatment.

The report states Molly was thin and weak with maggots crawling from her rectum.

The veterinarian determined that due to her condition, Molly had been neglected for some time. The veterinarian ultimately decided to euthanize Molly due to her suffering and her condition.

Detectives later responded to the animal hospital for further investigations. They then met with Urquizo and told him their findings in this case was severe neglect and abuse.

After investigations, detectives determined Urquizo did commit animal cruelty causing pain/death and he was arrested.
