A vehicle veered off the roadway on Interstate 75 just north of Bayshore Road in North Fort Myers and crashed into a home on Saturday morning, causing considerable damage.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, at 9:05 a.m. the car went off the roadway at mile marker 143 and crashed through a fence before slamming into the home on Williamsburg Drive.

The homeowner, J A, said this is the 7th time a car has hit his fence in the last couple of years, but this is the first time a car has gone into the house.

“I’m hoping the state will do something with a guardrail,” A said. At least to try to protect me. The fence is expensive to replace.”

Troopers say the two occupants in the car ran away but were later arrested.

B D Mc, 24, of Cape Coral, was arrested on charges of leaving the scene of a crash, driving with a suspended license, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The passenger, R L W, 24, also of Cape Coral, was arrested on an active felony warrant.

No one inside the home was injured.
