A driver was killed in a police pursuit in St. Johns County at 5:20 p.m. Thursday. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a St. Johns County deputy was pursuing a 36-year-old from Palm Coast, who was driving an SUV. One man has died, and another is in custody following a shooting in a Florida middle school parking lot, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies said the shooting happened near North Marion Middle School in Citra shortly before 7 p.m.  The suspect, 34-year-old Roderick Kelvin Watson Jr., was arrested and charged with second degree murder with a firearm and is being held with no bond, according to deputies.  The victim was identified as 32-year-old Joseph James Juarez Coles. 

A pedestrian was hit and killed by a car while trying to cross a street on Thursday morning, according to police. The Tampa Police Department responded to the crash on Nebraska Avenue just after 5:30 a.m. Officials said a man in his late 20s was trying to cross North Nebraska Avenue, just south of East Bougainvillea Avenue, outside of a crosswalk.
