Mother of teen killed in Citrus Park mall shooting looking for answers: ‘He didn’t deserve this’

Investigators with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office are working to find who shot and killed a 16-year-old boy outside the Citrus Park Town Center Mall Saturday evening. The agency said they are interviewing multiple persons of interest.  Shots were fired just after 7 p.m., killing Peter Hyman Jr, who his family called “PJ.” His mother, Bianca Cooper, is devastated and trying to get answers as to what unfolded outside the food court, where Hyman was enjoying a regular Saturday with his friends.

A 54-year-old Collier County woman was arrested after being accused of repeatedly striking and yelling at a baby in her care. Deysi Acosta, 54, is facing child abuse charges after Collier County deputies arrested her on Tuesday. According to detectives, another child at Acosta’s home day care used an iPad that belonged to a third child to record a video of Acosta as she repeatedly hit the baby on the butt and legs while she was changing his diaper. 24-year-old arrested in connection to man found shot in car on I-295 at I-10 interchange

A 24-year-old man was arrested Tuesday in connection to the death of a man found shot in his car on Interstate 295 at the Interstate 10 interchange in May. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office found Derrick Nicholls, 22, suffering from a gunshot wound after the car had traveled off the road into the tree line. Nicholls was taken to the hospital, where he died. JSO said evidence at the scene led them to Santos Herring. Herring was already in jail on unrelated charges.

Smoke and flames engulf Southern Recycling in Pensacola

Osceola County deputy hospitalized after crash, troopers say

A crash Tuesday night south of Kissimmee involved a marked Osceola County Sheriff’s Office patrol car and sent the deputy driving it to the hospital, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
