A 13-year-old girl riding a bicycle in Brevard County was struck and killed Thursday afternoon by a vehicle, the Florida Highway Patrol said. The fatal crash happened around 4:20 p.m. on Aurora Road near Cecilia Street. A 7-year-old girl has died after a collision on Gazelle Drive in North Fort Myers. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 69-year-old man driving a Chevrolet Silverado was traveling east on Gazelle Drive Thursday afternoon. The child was on a side road, located on the north side of Gazelle Drive, and entered the direct path of the approaching Chevrolet. The front left of the Chevrolet collided with the child. A man has died after he was shot by a Jacksonville sheriff’s officer Thursday. He has now been identified by JSO as 30-year-old Dejuane Aki Hayden.  Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters said officers were conducting surveillance in the 2900 block of Justina Road around 4 p.m. when the incident happened. Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Chief Alan Parker said officers watched three men, including Hayden, “flashing guns back and forth” and conducting drug transactions. FHP’s crash report states that at 6:25 p.m. Thursday, the SUV and semi-truck were traveling south on I-95, one mile north of CR-210; the SUV was in left lane, while the semi-truck was in the right lane.

Less than 24 hours after a tornado outbreak killed at least six people in St. Lucie County, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis visited the hurricane-ravaged county on Thursday. A Fort Meade Maintenance worker died early Thursday morning while clearing storm debris. According to Polk County, the worker was clearing roads around 5:45 a.m. from US 98. Authorities are investigating a drowning incident at a Pompano Beach home that left a child dead on Thursday. Deputies and fire rescue crews responded to the home in the 1600 block of Northeast 1st Avenue shortly after 12 p.m. after receiving a call of a possible drowning, Broward Sheriff’s Office officials said. Hurricane Milton caused significant damage to a Cape Coral home. On Wednesday, around 9 p.m., a single-family home burst into flames off of Chiquita Boulevard in northwest Cape Coral. Neighbors said the fire was likely caused by a downed transformer. There are several downed transformers in Cape Coral caused by the strong wind from Milton. A Hollywood police officer is recovering after being injured during a shooting Thursday morning, authorities confirmed.
