Tampa Bay area attorney John Trevena was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash Monday night, and the Florida Highway Patrol is trying to locate the driver who took off.  According to troopers, a Volkswagen Beetle was stopped behind a Toyota sedan in traffic westbound on Ulmerton Road, in the outside lane, east of US 19, around 7:25 p.m.  That’s when, according to FHP, a white sedan, possibly a Toyota with previous rear-end damage, slammed into the back of the Beetle, which crashed

Two people were killed in a head-on crash on State Road 60 Tuesday afternoon. It happened near River Ranch Boulevard, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. A Chevy Silverado was traveling westbound on SR-60 near the Lake Kissimmee south boat ramp when it crossed the center lanes and hit a Honda CRV head-on. A third vehicle then hit the CRV, FHP said.  Three Crestview women were arrested last Friday after Okaloosa County deputies and Panhandle Animal Welfare Society rescued dozens of neglected animals from a home last month. These woman are each charged with 14 counts of aggravated animal cruelty and 14 counts of animal cruelty: Alaqua depends on donations for all of its operations.  A Florida reporter witnessed an officer-involved shooting Tuesday at around noon, according to NBC station WESH. WESH reporter Tony Atkins said he was getting off of I-4 in Orlando when he saw heavy police presence at a gas station in the area of Michigan Street and Westmoreland Drive. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday that it arrested the sister of the man accused of injuring a deputy during a traffic stop earlier this month. The sheriff’s office said detectives learned that 29-year-old Briana Jeffries aided her brother, William Lewis, Jr., after he struck Deputy Kalin Hall with his vehicle and fled on July 5, 2024. The Florida Department of Transportation says a semitrailer crashed on I-75 southbound Tuesday morning, causing major traffic backups in Collier County. Florida Highway Patrol responded to the crash around 3:40 a.m. at mile marker 90. The semitrailer was hauling rooftop shingles that spilled onto the highway after the crash. A woman was shot Monday evening in North Lauderdale, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.  The victim, whose name has not been released, was shot at around 6:44 p.m. in the 1000 block of Southwest 76th Avenue. Details on her condition were not provided.  “The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment,” the sheriff’s office said.  Crime scene and homicide detectives could be seen investigating for several hours after the shooting.   This is a developing story.  A 77-year-old homeless man was arrested for Saturday afternoon’s incident in Milton where he allegedly fired nine rounds at Santa Rosa County SWAT, according to the sheriff’s office. Clifford Whennen of Pensacola is charged with: The incident happened around 1:40 p.m. on Glover Lane. According to the arrest report, a Milton Police officer located Whennen’s vehicle in a business parking spot on the 4900 block of Glover Lane following a reckless driving complaint. An investigation continues into a fatal Friday crash in the eastbound lanes of State Road 528 on Merritt Island. Florida Highway Patrol troopers said Saturday that a 20-year-old Merritt Island woman died in the 5:54 p.m. accident, which involved a 2005 Infinti G35 and a 2020 Kenworth tractor-trailer, both traveling in the left lane.
