Fatal crash shuts down I-95 in Brevard County

Photo by: (FDOT) A fatal crash Friday afternoon prompted the closure of southbound Interstate 95 in southern Brevard County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The crash occurred around 1:43 p.m. in the area of mile marker 161, near Sebastian, troopers said. According to a preliminary FHP crash report, the crash involved a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu and a 2021 Toyota Corolla. Identification is pending for one occupant of the Toyota who was pronounced dead at the scene, the report states.

Florida woman, 71, shot man to death because ‘he did not clean up,’ police say

A 71-year-old Florida woman was arrested on allegations of shooting and killing a man because “he did not clean up after himself,” police said. Patricia Whitehead was arrested on a charge of first-degree murder in connection with the shooting, which happened around 9:30 a.m. Thursday in Ybor Heights. According to Tampa police, officers responded to the shooting and found a man suffering from “upper body trauma.” The man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced deceased, police said.
