A 21-year-old Pensacola woman is dead after being struck by a pickup truck in Escambia County on Sunday night, according to Florida Highway Patrol. Crews responded to 2830 Neptune Road Friday morning, a canal that links Lake Tohopekaliga and East Lake Tohopekaliga. A man was arrested for holding his mother hostage in a Riverview apartment Thursday night, according to officials. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said deputies arrived at the Allegro Palm apartment complex around 9:26 p.m. after receiving a call about a domestic disturbance. When they arrived, deputies said they made contact with a family member who told them the suspect, Najah Strickland, 29, barricaded himself and his mother, Chaketa Mister, 47, in the apartment. A 22-year-old St. Augustine man died Wednesday when he failed to stop at an intersection on County Road 248 in Suwannee County and traveled underneath a tractor-trailer. A motorcyclist died Thursday night after he crashed into a pickup truck on Baymeadows Road, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said. The 25-year-old motorcyclist was driving east on Baymeadows Road around 7:15 p.m. when a Toyota Tundra pickup truck towing a large utility trailer went to make a left turn after it pulled out from the Park Avelino Apartments, according to JSO. The pickup truck and trailer blocked all eastbound lanes, causing the motorcyclist to hit the driver’s side, JSO said.
