A bicyclist was killed in DeSoto County on Thursday night. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a van was driving north along US 17 near Southwest Skates Street around 7:18 p.m. A 40-year-old man riding a bicycle got into the north lane as the van was approaching. At 7:28 pm an explosion occurred followed by what appeared to be fireworks. The incident has closed I-10 near mile marker 187 heading west. Smoke and flames were reported a little after 2 a.m. on the patio on the third floor of a residential structure.
