An Indian River County Sheriff’s Office helicopter camera captured the moments the marine unit from IRC Fire Rescue pulled three fishermen from a capsized boat.
“They were fishing,” Lt. KC said. “The rope got tangled in their prop, turned around, the waves turned the boat over.”
Two units from Indian River County Fire Rescue and the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office responded.
“We called for hawk, which made it very easy to spot,” dive team engineer SS said. “Once we got to Wabasso and launched the RIB [boat], we spotted the helicopter, which was spotting the victims, so we were able to get there very quickly.”
The three men on board treaded 62-degree water for 45 minutes but were OK.
“They didn’t really speak much, but they seemed to be a little concerned for me,” BP, the paramedic who pulled the men from the water, said. “I took it as an adrenaline rush.”
