According to police, the driver of the car crashed after having a medical episode, and later died from that episode, not from any injuries sustained in the crash. They said there was also a juvenile in the car who was unharmed.
WESH2 spoke with the people who live in the home, who said no one inside was injured. The car crashed into a child’s playroom.
Valorie Ford said she could hear something coming Sunday afternoon.
“And then it hit the house,” she told WESH. “Then I knew something was bad. And it wasn’t good. The driver had passed out and was unresponsive.”
Ford didn’t want to be shown on camera, but she walked us through what happened when she found the car crashed into her Sanford Avenue home.
“I banged on the door and nobody was doing anything,” she said. “Somebody was banging on the back window, so I opened it up and it was a little girl.”
Sanford police confirmed an adult and someone under eighteen were in the car when it crashed. The driver later died from that medical issue. But the other person wasn’t hurt.
Ford said no one was in the room that the car crashed into.
“Oh honey, I’m grateful that nobody was in the room,” she said.
Inside the room, you could see a bookshelf toppled over onto a bed and some toys below. Ford said the room is used as a playroom for one of her granddaughters.
“Right where the car hit right beside it … is her desk,” she said. “So she sits there a lot. But she has a little bed that she plays on, and all the stuff that was on this wall is now on top of that bed. So it could have been very, very bad.”
Ford said she’s not sure how long the damage will take to fix. She’s just glad her family is okay.
“Just throw a tarp over it and hope for the best,” she said.
