A child was trauma alerted to a local hospital on Tuesday morning, and two others were injured following a two-vehicle crash with rollover at an intersection in northeast Ocala.
At around 7 a.m., Marion County Fire Rescue and Ocala Fire Rescue units were dispatched to the intersection of NE 36th Avenue and NE 40th Avenue Road after receiving multiple reports of a “bad accident” involving a pickup truck and SUV, according to MCFR.
Firefighters soon arrived on scene and observed that a “pediatric passenger” was entrapped in the SUV. The child was freed from the wreckage at 7:11 a.m. and rushed to a trauma hospital.
The second vehicle involved in the crash, a pickup truck, had rolled onto its roof. MCFR stated that the truck’s driver was able to self-extricate from the overturned vehicle.
A total of three patients were transported to local hospitals for treatment of unspecified injuries that were sustained in the two-vehicle collision, according to MCFR.
The cause of the accident is currently being investigated by the Florida Highway Patrol.
“Our thoughts are with the affected individuals and their families during this difficult time,” stated MCFR Fire Chief James Banta. “We urge our citizens and visitors to be vigilant and drive safely.”
