Couple arrested for neglecting teen in San Carlos Park

SAN CARLOS PARK, Fla. —
On Tuesday, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Warrants Unit and U.S. Marshals arrested a San Carlos Park couple for child neglect.

LCSO says Dwayne and Theresa Staron are accused of abusing a teenager by feeding them drugs and neglecting them.

Dwayne is also accused of molesting the teen.

The investigation began after a welfare check on the teen in October.

During the months-long investigation, the sheriff’s office says the teen was removed from having contact with the Starons.

Sheriff Carmine Marceno says investigations that involve children take time.

“These investigations take a long time because you have to build cases, conduct many interviews, and gather the facts to see what exactly occurred. You only get very specific chances to do that, and you have one time to do it right,” Sheriff Marceno said.
