Cape Coral Police are investigating a serious injury crash on Burnt Store Road and Embers Parkway.
Police say three vehicles are involved, including a cement truck. There are serious injuries and at least one person was taken to the hospital.
“There is a little bit of a bridge there. Sometimes it can be hard to tell if someone is coming,” said Lisa Greenberg, Public Information Officer for CCPD.
It’s not clear how the crash happened. Northbound lanes of Burnt Store Road and eastbound lanes of Embers Parkway are closed.
This is the second crash at the same intersection in less than a week and the third crash there in the last month.
On Oct. 31, there was a two-car crash, which injured five people.
In that crash, police say one car was going north on Burnt Store Road when the other vehicle turned in front of it going east onto Embers Parkway.
Through a public records request Fox 4 found in 2022 there were 5 crashes at the intersection, in 2023, that number nearly doubled, and so far in 2024 it has tripled.
Plus, neighbors who spoke with Fox 4’s Bella Line say they have seen multiple medical flights over the years.
“As it’s getting more populated over here, there’s gonna be more and more traffic, more cars,” said Richie Horstman, a neighbor. “If they just had extended that bridge over this road, I think that’s the answer to, you know, it’ll save a life.”
Fox 4’s Bella Line reached out to Lee County to see if the Department of Transportation has plans to change this intersection and they said they are working with CCPD to review the causes of these crashes.
For now, CCPD says officers will continue to patrol busy roads like Burnt Store to try and prevent collisions.
