Cyclist hit by truck in Seminole County has died, trooper says

The Florida Highway Patrol said a cyclist who was struck by a truck on Friday in Seminole County has died.

FHP said they are investigating a crash that happened on Friday in Seminole County.

Troopers said the crash happened at 3:16 p.m. near Casselberry.

FHP said a Ford F-150 was driving northbound on Red Bug Lake Road while a bicyclist was traveling westbound on the sidewalk.

Troopers said the cyclist entered a marked crosswalk within the intersection, and the driver of the Ford failed to yield the right of way to the cyclist.

Troopers said as a result, the front of the Ford hit the passenger on the bike, a 62-year-old man from Casselberry, and was taken to the hospital as a trauma alert with critical injuries.

FHP said the Ford driver fled the scene, and a witness followed the car and provided information to law enforcement.

The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office said they were able to find the car unoccupied in a nearby parking lot.

Deputies said they found a man matching the description entering the Ford and detained the suspect.

Troopers said they continued the hit-and-run investigation and arrested K I, 28, of Casselberry, for leaving the scene of a crash involving serious injuries.

I was taken to the Seminole County Jail.
