A Dade City man is dead after troopers said he crashed a vehicle he stole from a woman who tried to help him after he crashed another car Tuesday evening.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the 29-year-old man originally lost control when he crashed into a traffic median barrier while driving a GMC Sierra on SR 50 at Kettering Road in Hernando County.
After that crash, a 35-year-old woman who saw the crash stopped to help him, according to crash investigators. The 29-year-old then stole her car, which was a Chevy HHR.
Not long after stealing the woman’s vehicle, the 29-year-old driver crossed a median and hit a tractor-trailer, which was driven by a 45-year-old Plant City man, head-on. This crash happened on SR-50, west of Hartness Drive.
The 29-year-old, who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, died from his injuries, according to FHP. The Plant City man suffered minor injuries in the crash.
