A deadly crash has closed northbound Ben Hill Griffin Parkway at Parallel Road in south Fort Myers.
The crash happened between Alico Road and Terminal Access Road shortly after 2:10 a.m. Monday morning.
According to FHP, a car driven by a 24-year-old man from Lake Whales went off the road onto the shoulder and sidewalk for unknown reasons. The car then traveled back across the road, crashing into a sign and two trees in the median.
One witness said the vehicle, which was tangled in the trees, burst into flames after the crash.
Deputies and the FHP are on the scene of the crash, conducting an investigation. An FHP trooper said they would be there all day.
Southbound lanes have partially reopened, and northbound lanes will remain closed for most of the day.
