A crash on Interstate 95 on Monday afternoon resulted in two deaths and multiple injuries as three vehicles collided near Ormond Beach, Florida. The crash shut down the northbound lanes of the interstate for several hours.
Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) arrived at the scene just before 4 p.m. According to initial reports, the crash south of U.S. 1, at mile marker 272, involved a 2023 Toyota Corolla, a 2013 Ford Fiesta, and a 2022 Ford Ranger.
According to troopers, the Fiesta driver lost control of her vehicle, causing it to veer off the roadway onto the inside shoulder. In an attempt to correct the course, the driver swerved back onto the road, began rotating, and collided with the Corolla. The Fiesta then continued spinning into the outside lane, directly into the path of the Ranger.
The driver of the Fiesta, a 38-year-old woman, and a rear-seat passenger, a 20-year-old woman, both of Palm Coast, were killed in the crash. The driver died at the scene, and the passenger was pronounced deceased after being transported to Advent Health Daytona Beach. A front-seat passenger, identified as a two-year-old girl, sustained severe injuries and was transported to Halifax Health Daytona Hospital.
The driver of the Corolla sustained minor injuries and was transported to Advent Health Daytona Beach for treatment, along with the driver of the Ranger, who also suffered minor injuries and was taken to Advent Health Palm Coast.
The crash remains under active investigation, the FHP said.
