A South Bay man was killed after a crash in Belle Glade on Wednesday.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO) said the crash happened at the intersection of State Road 80 (Southern Boulevard) and Hatton Highway at around 12:33 p.m. on Nov. 5.
According to the crash report, a 2013 Nissan Maxima, driven by 71-year-old George Sandiford of South Bay, failed to stop at a red traffic signal while traveling eastbound on State Road 80. The vehicle collided with a 2026 Freightliner Cascadia semi-truck that was making a lawful left turn westbound through the intersection under a green light.
The impact struck the left side of the Freightliner, causing the Nissan to rotate and become attached to the trailer. The PBSO report said that Sandiford, who was not wearing a seatbelt, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Freightliner was not injured.
