MARIANNA, Fla. (WMBB) – A man is dead following a deputy-involved shooting on Wonder Road early Monday morning.
According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the area in reference to a suspicious person walking around someone’s yard.
When deputies responded, they attempted to de-escalate the situation.
“Three deputies immediately responded and attempted to de-escalate the situation, eventually using less lethal force on the suspect,” deputies wrote in a news release. “At that time, the suspect raised his rifle at deputies.”
Officials said deputies then used deadly force to take down the suspect as they feared for their lives and safety to others.
Deputies began life-saving measures, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
No deputies were harmed.
The investigation is now in the hands of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
