Broward Sheriff’s Office traffic homicide detectives are investigating a hit-and-run crash involving two all-terrain vehicles that they said resulted in a man’s death in Pompano Beach this past weekend.
BSO detectives announced Wednesday that they are searching for the driver who fled the scene after the collision was reported.
It happened shortly after 7 p.m. on Saturday in the 2600 block of West Atlantic Boulevard, according to deputies.
Authorities said the driver of one ATV — possibly a Quad — was traveling westbound when they made an improper left turn across a curbed grass median, colliding with a Yamaha Raptor 700 ATV. The impact ejected the Yamaha driver, identified as Alexander Frometa, deputies confirmed.
BSO said Frometa was transported by Pompano Beach Fire Rescue to Broward Health North, where he later died.
Investigators confirmed that both ATVs involved in the crash were being improperly operated on public roads alongside other ATVs and dirt bikes, which had also fled the scene before deputies arrived.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact BSO Traffic Homicide Unit Detective Gino Tonna at 954-321-4888 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477. A reward of up to $10,000 being offered for information that leads to an arrest.
