A dog drowned after a vehicle crashed into a pond in the Isles of Porto Vista in Cape Coral Monday evening.
According to Cape Coral police, an elderly woman drove from a parking spot into a lake inside the Isles of Porto Vista community, fully submerging the car.
A good Samaritan saw it and swam out to help her get out. CCPD says the woman told the Samaritan that she had a dog in the vehicle.
The Cape Coral Fire Department Dive Team responded with a rescue swimmer in attempts to locate the car and the dog.
One dog was found dead inside the car, according to reports.
The woman was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
