Dog dies in Silver Springs house fire

Marion County Fire Rescue (MCFR) firefighters responded to a house on fire in Silver Springs Sunday afternoon.

No one was inside the home at the time of the fire except for the family dog; unfortunately, the animal did not survive the flames.

MCFR firefighters said they responded to the heavy smoke and flames coming from the roof of the home on Northeast 130th Terrace near Bream Lake around noon Sunday.

When firefighters arrived, the fire had already made its way to the attic.

The fire was called under control approximately 20 minutes after firefighters arrived, but the dog was not responsive when it was found inside the home.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is being investigated.

The American Red Cross was called in to assist the displaced residents, according to MCFR officials.
