A devastating house fire in Crystal River left a person and their dog dead on Saturday morning.
Just before 8 a.m., Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to a double-wide mobile home fire on North Weewahi Point.
Crews said the intensity of the blaze caused a power line to collapse, resulting in an electrical hazard as it landed on one of their hose lines.
Once fire officials were inside, they found a deceased dog, before coming across a resident buried under fire debris in a closet within the main fire room. That individual was pronounced dead.
“CCFR extends its condolences to the family and loved ones affected by this tragedy,” the fire department said.
The Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office are conducting an investigation regarding the victim’s death.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
