A Winter Haven man is dead after Polk County deputies said he made a left turn in front of another driver on Friday night.
Around 6 p.m., a 46-year-old man in a Honda CRV was traveling west on Dundee Road when he went to turn left onto Overlook Drive on a yellow flashing arrow.
At the same time, officials said a 28-year-old Lake Wales man in a Dodge Ram 3500 truck was heading east on Dundee, traveling under a green light through the intersection.
That’s when the Honda cut in front of the truck and was hit on its passenger side.
The collision propelled the Honda 150 feet east, according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies said the truck driver was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries, while the Honda driver was taken to a hospital with critical injuries, where he later died. Officials said the Honda driver did not appear to be wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
