A driver was cited after they crashed into a restaurant in Pinellas Park on Tuesday, authorities said.

A vehicle was at a car wash across the street from Parkside Cafe and rolled backwards when the driver didn’t put the car in park, according to the Pinellas Park Police Department. The car accelerated when the driver tried to get it to stop.

The vehicle crashed into the side of the building, causing “major” damage, police said. City engineers are working to determine what structural damage there is to the building.

The restaurant was closed at the time of the crash.

Impairment was not a factor in the crash, but the driver will be cited for careless driving, police said.
