A driver crashed into a duplex in Lehigh Acres early Sunday morning, causing significant damage.
“So I woke up this morning, I got the text saying, you know, somebody ran into the duplex, and the first thing I thought was, you know, I got, you know, kids staying here, and I just wanted to I was worried that, you know, somebody got hurt,” said JS, the owner of the duplex.
Smith rushed to her property on Haviland Avenue and 27th Street SW after hearing about the chaos.
“You can see that driver zooming down the road and crashing right into this home,” S said, describing the Ring camera footage.
The impact was so loud that S and the residents described it as sounding like an explosion.
“There was damage to his car, obviously. Damage to this one. Damage over there, you know, and you can. There’s just a field of debris,” S said. “You cannot access it from the garage door inside. And there is a huge water leakage into the kitchen. We went in and they let us see that, you know, the wall was bowed in pipes were, you know, busted out. So right now, they don’t have water.”
S is now trying to figure out the next steps to take care of her tenants and handle the situation.
“I just want to take the right steps, you know, to do right by my tenants and make sure everybody’s taken care of. And unfortunately, I guess from what I understand, you didn’t have a license. You didn’t have insurance. So, like, where do I go from here?” S said.
Fortunately, no one was hurt as everyone was sleeping in rooms located on the side of the duplex.
Multiple cars in the driveway were damaged, with at least one being totaled.
Authorities are investigating the incident, and it is unclear what charges the driver may face.
