Miami man suffered serious injuries after crossing the median of a divided highway in western Palm Beach County and colliding with a tractor-trailer, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO) reported.
According to the crash report, Fidel Pomares was traveling on U.S. 27 South near South Bay around 6:15 p.m. on Monday evening when he came upon a road curved sharply to the right. The road is banked so drivers do not have to slow down from the posted speed limit.
The report explained that Pomares’ sedan did not make the bend and went through the median of the divided highway and into oncoming traffic.
His 2022 Nissan Altima crossed directly into the path of an oncoming semi driver, where Pomares’ car hit the left front wheels of the tractor-trailer, the Sheriff’s Office determined. The collision knocked the Nissan back into the median and caused the semi to jackknife before going off the shoulder of the highway.
