A semi-truck lost control and was overturned into the Tampa Bypass Canal in Hillsborough County, resulting in the driver’s death.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) reported that around 3 a.m. Monday, a semi-truck drove over the guard rail of a bypass canal, off of I-75.

Officials stated that the HCSO dive team responded to extract the truck out of the canal while receiving tornado and hurricane warnings due to Tropical Storm Debby.

HCSO reported around 10:20 a.m. that the dive team was able to recover the semi-truck from the water and found the driver dead inside.

WFLA News Channel 8 stated that the driver was later identified as a 64-year-old man from Mississippi.
