Driver killed after running red light, crashing into semi on OBT, troopers say

A man was killed in a crash involving a tractor-trailer early Monday on Orange Blossom Trail in Orange County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 2 a.m. at the intersection of Orange Blossom Trail and the northbound SR-417 exit ramp.

Troopers said the man was driving a Kia K4 southbound on Orange Blossom Trail when, according to witnesses, he ran a red light.

At the same time, a 43-year-old Kissimmee man driving a Freightliner tractor-trailer was making a left turn from the northbound SR-417 exit ramp onto northbound Orange Blossom Trail.

The Kia reportedly hit the left side of the trailer and then ran off the road and crashed into a light pole.

The driver of the Kia was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released pending identification by the Medical Examiner’s Office.

The truck driver was not injured and stayed at the scene, FHP says.

The crash is under investigation.
