Driver killed after vehicle strikes concrete barrier, overturns on Florida Turnpike in Orange County

One person was killed and another injured after their vehicle lost control trying to exit the Florida Turnpike at Interstate 4 in Orange County on Monday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the crash happened on the northbound Florida Turnpike exit ramp to the eastbound I-4 Express Lanes around 3:04 p.m.

According to a crash report, a Mazda MX-5 was traveling north on the Florida Turnpike exit ramp to I-4 at mile marker 259 when the driver started to change lanes towards the inside lane and lost control.

Troopers said the driver then overcorrected to the left and struck the inside shoulder concrete wall barrier before the vehicle overturned onto its roof.

The driver, identified as a 19-year-old St. Cloud man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger, identified also as a 19-year-old man from St. Cloud, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
