Driver strikes Florida deputy on motorcycle after making U-turn, officials say

A Florida deputy was hospitalized after a driver making a U-turn struck his motorcycle on Saturday.

According to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was traveling eastbound toward the Speedway in Daytona Beach on his agency motorcycle.

Another driver made a U-turn on International Speedway Boulevard and pulled out in front of the deputy’s motorcycle at Roosevelt Boulevard.

Officials said the deputy was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

“Very thankful his injuries weren’t worse,” the sheriff’s office said.

The Florida Highway Patrol took over the crash investigation and issued a failure to yield citation to the driver.
