Driver’s donut stunt crash causes power outage for more than 1K Cape Coral homes

A driver doing donuts caused neighborhood blackouts. More than 1,000 people lost power in Cape Coral after a driver lost control in an intersection.

The crash happened Saturday around 7 p.m. on Oasis Boulevard and Beach Parkway W. Cape Coral Police officers on the scene told NBC2 someone lost control of their car while doing donuts at the intersection, struck a utility pole, continued up the front yard of a residence and then struck an LCEC power control box. People living in the area say it sounded like an explosion.

Officers told NBC2 there were four people in the car and at least three were taken to the hospital. NBC2 reached out to CCPD to check on their condition and to see if anyone will be facing charges. They have not yet responded.

Neighbors told NBC2 that reckless driving is a problem at this intersection. They also say LCEC crews restored power in a matter of hours.
