A 61-year-old man has been accused of stabbing an acquaintance and leaving him in critical condition after getting drunk outside a Lake Worth Beach convenience store.
According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO), deputies responded to a report of a stabbing at the C&K Food Mart located at 1012 North G Street in Lake Worth Beach on Saturday at around 9:33 p.m.
Upon arrival, deputies reported observing a significant amount of blood in front of the store and on the walls. They found the victim hunched over near the store with stab wounds to his chest and right hand.
According to the probable cause affidavit, when deputies asked the victim what had happened, he explained that he was helping the store clerk ask S A O to leave the premises due to his drunken behavior in front of the store. A O left after their conversation, and the victim resumed his shopping.
The report states that approximately ten minutes later, A O returned to the store and approached the victim with a large knife, stabbing him in the chest.
The victim told deputies that he attempted to flee, but A O chased him through the parking lot, continuing to stab him until the victim was able to run into the store and call for help.
A bystander and her husband witnessed the stabbing; she reported that her husband pursued A O to Northeast Street between 7th and 8th Avenue after the attack, the affidavit stated. A deputy responded to the scene and took A O into custody.
Detectives stated that they were later able to find the kitchen knife that A O used, which he had dropped after fleeing the scene, on the northwest corner of 10th Avenue North and North G Street.
It was noted in the affidavit that A O and the victim were personally acquainted and had interacted numerous times in the past.
A O has been accused of attempted first-degree murder and tampering with physical evidence.
