A 36-year-old Dunnellon man was arrested on a domestic battery charge after he got into an argument with his girlfriend in an RV and allegedly choked her until she passed out.
On Sunday, February 23, Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a local residence in reference to a domestic battery incident. The female victim alleged that she had been choked by her boyfriend, LJR, according to the arrest report.
A deputy noted in the report that an abrasion and slight bruises were observed on the front of the victim’s neck.
According to the victim’s statement, she woke up in the RV and observed R “going through her belongings.” She then told him to stop what he was doing, and she grabbed her items and began walking to the front of the RV.
R allegedly called the victim a “disrespectful whore,” which led to a brief argument. The victim alleged that R then proceeded to place her in a “rear chokehold,” which caused her to lose consciousness.
The victim stated that when she “woke up,” R was “hovering over her” and “cussing her out.” She advised that she stood up and ran to a nearby house, where she called law enforcement.
The deputies made contact with R at the incident location. After being read his Miranda rights, he claimed that while arguing with the victim, she had “tried to punch him in his face.” He stated that he “dodged the punch,” which caused the victim to “fall onto the ground,” according to the report.
During the post-Miranda interview, R denied touching the victim. However, the report stated that R was unable to provide an accurate description of what had occurred in between the argument and the victim allegedly trying to punch him in his face.
The deputies determined that R was the “primary aggressor,” and he was placed under arrest and transported to Marion County Jail. He is currently being held at the jail without bond, and he is being charged with domestic battery by strangulation.
A court date for R has not been scheduled yet, according to jail records.
