A birthday celebration at a park & ride lot in southwest Miami-Dade went south after a spat over how one of the participants was cooking food, leading to a man falling victim to a severe beating that landed him in the hospital, deputies said.
One of the suspects, a 57-year-old southwest Miami-Dade man known by the nickname “El Tiburón” — “shark” in Spanish — was taken into custody on Tuesday.
According to an arrest report from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, the celebration took place Monday evening at the Miami-Dade Transit Park & Ride lot at Southwest 127th Avenue and Kendall Drive.
A witness said a group of men were drinking and celebrating his birthday when “El Tiburón,” whose actual name is C E B P, became upset over the way the victim was cooking food during the get-together, the report states.
The argument was initially verbal, but turned physical, deputies said. B P “became aggressive” and a witness said he and another man, 41-year-old F J. S, attacked the victim, stomping on his face, deputies said.
The witness broke up the fight. Deputies said they responded just after 9 p.m. after receiving a report of a “possible overdose and several individuals doing drugs” and found the victim bloodied and badly beaten.
The report states that the victim, who was taken to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital, suffered “multiple facial bone fractures” and a forehead laceration as a result of the beating.
Authorities said they located B P on Tuesday evening and he “minimized his involvement” in the beating.
B P, arrested on a second-degree felony charge of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, was being held in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center as of Wednesday afternoon.
The Cuban national’s bond was listed in online records as “to be set.”
Meanwhile, deputies said S “remains at large.”
