Elderly man rescued after car drives into canal in West Palm Beach

A 76-year-old man lost control of his car and ended up in a canal at the Palm Club Villages.

According to the West Palm Beach Police Department, the crash occurred on Monday. Palm Beach County Fire Rescue (PBCFR) says the man was driving a Silver Ford Fusion when he accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brake.

A video submitted by a CBS12 viewer shows a man in the canal as he helps the elderly man out of the window of a silver sedan. Another video shows West Palm Beach Police arriving at the scene along with PBCFR.

Police say the man was able to get out of the car, it’s unclear if he was injured or went to the hospital.
