An Atmore man was arrested on multiple charges after a chase Saturday night in Escambia County ended with a PIT maneuver and rollover crash.
Derek Coleman, 34, is charged with:
- DUI
- weapon possession by a convicted felon
- fleeing and eluding
He was also cited for having an open container.
The incident took place around 11:15 p.m. on Highway 29 near Molino Road.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, Escambia County deputies were first pursuing Coleman’s vehicle for driving recklessly, driving the wrong way against traffic and possible DUI.
“The deputies pulled to the outside lane allowing the Trooper to take lead of the pursuit and utilize the PIT,” FHP states in a release.
FHP states Coleman’s vehicle overturned twice and came to a rest on its roof.
Coleman was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. Upon release from the hospital, he was booked intothe Escambia County Jail.
Coleman is being held in Escambia County Jail on $11,000 bond.
