Escambia County deputy fired after arrest on child abuse, neglect charges

An Escambia County deputy was fired after being arrested Saturday night.

Christopher Turney, 40, was booked into Escambia County Jail on these charges:

  • child cruelty
  • child neglect
  • contributing to delinquency of a minor – parent failed to require school attendance

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to WEAR News on Monday that Turney has been terminated from his deputy position.

He was released from jail Sunday afternoon on $17,000 bond.

No further details were released about the case.

Turney’s mugshot was made exempt in Escambia County Jail records.
