Calls reporting a man firing a gun in his front yard in Escambia County ended in an officer-involved shooting on Saturday after the suspect reportedly fired his AR-15 rifle at deputies.
The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office (ECSO) reported that after receiving calls around 10:45 p.m., an officer arrived at the scene in the 800 block of Amberway Drive. Upon the officer’s arrival, the suspect fired an AR-15 rifle at them but missed.
Deputies say they gave multiple commands for the suspect to drop the weapon, however he refused.
After multiple refusals, reports state that deputies shot the suspect, after which he was taken to the hospital.
ECSO stated that both a pistol and an AR-15 rifle were recovered from the property.
Per ESCO policy, all involved deputies have been placed on administrative leave, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement will investigate the officer-involved shooting.
