An Orange County deputy faces new charges after he was caught stalking a Seminole County detective who investigated him earlier this year for possessing child pornography, according to the Mt. Dora Police Department.
Court records show Cpl. James Montiel was arrested for aggravated stalking Monday, mere months after he was accused of possessing obscene videos of underage youth. The alleged stalking apparently began even before Montiel’s initial, May 17 arrest, as he searched for the detective and her relatives on a law enforcement database, according to an affidavit.
It continued after Montiel was released on bond, investigators noted, when he tried following the detective home as she drove in her agency vehicle. The affidavit further alleges Montiel’s car was spotted outside the detective’s home on several occasions, including Monday, when he was stopped there and arrested. The affidavit does not include the detective’s full name.
In addition to detailing Montiel’s alleged stalking, the affidavit said the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office received public records requests filed in Montiel’s wife’s name, asking for the detective’s work timesheets, the make and model of her agency-issued vehicle and its toll records. The day of his arrest, Montiel told Mt. Dora police he was conducting a private investigation into the detective “abusing her time clock,” the affidavit said.
