Fatal crash blocks Interstate 95 northbound in Fort Lauderdale

A fatal crash blocked all of the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 for hours on Friday in Fort Lauderdale.

The driver of a 2008 Volvo tractor with a 2014 Stoughton trailer died in the fiery crash near Interstate 595, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The driver of the tractor-trailer truck was in the outside center lane when a 39-year-old woman, who was driving a black 2021 Nissan Altima in the inside center lane, collided with its back, according to FHP.

The trailer then collided with the concrete median wall, a parked 1991 Trim trailer, and overturned onto its roof before becoming fully engulfed in flames, according to FHP.

Fort Lauderdale and Broward fire rescue personnel responded to the crash, which remained under investigation on Friday afternoon.
